the analog elvis shrine

in the early nineties, i worked in the library acquisition department at uc berkeley. (hey, everybody had to ride out the bush recession somewhere.)

in those few short, fateful years, the elvis shrine adjacent to my workstation grew in renown not only on campus but throughout the world, as vendors and subscription agents, having encountered the shrine in the course of their professional duties, would spread its message of universal elvitude to the farthest corners of the earth.

elvis shrine

the photo above depicts the shrine during a 1993 rededication ceremony necessitated by the reconfiguration of the acquisition department's cubicle layout.

well, eventually the economy bounced back, i found work in the private sector, and elvis left the building. i keep the dismantled shrine in a box in my garage. (i'm convinced that its miraculous healing powers are the only thing keeping the family car, a temperamental '84 chevy cavalier, in proper working order.)

but i have a vision. a vision of a new elvis shrine. a 24-hour, web-enabled, fully interactive elvis shrine. oh, can't you just see it now? right here in the elvis area of my web site!

please exercise caution when holding ailing body parts up to your monitor.
