The way to San Jose
Wed, 09 Nov 2005: In 1967 right after she and my Dad split up, my Mom traded in the family car, an appallingly fuel inefficient Ford Galaxy, for a more practical and economical '65 Chevy Corvair. This would be the same vehicle immortalized in Ralph Nader's masterpiece of consumer advocacy, Unsafe at Any Speed.

That car was the shoddiest piece of crap you ever saw. We had to keep a collapsed cardboard box in the middle of my Mom's parking space in the apartment building where we lived because the damn thing leaked oil like a bullet riddled B-52 in one of those World War II movies.

Hooray for Hollywood!
Mon, 07 Nov 2005: It was a fun trip to Hollywood and the L.A. County Art Museum, but, sadly two of the landmarks that I remembered so fondly from our trip 12 years ago, Johnnie's Fat Boy and the International Male Boutique are just memories.

Well, I guess Johnnie's Fat Boy isn't exactly a memory. I mean, it's still there. It's just not a restaurant anymore. It's being rented out for movies. I guess it's kind of a what you call a historical artifact.

Balanced breakfast?
Tue, 01 Nov 2005: Another Halloween has come and gone in El Cerrito. Time to put the Barbie makeup head back in the china cabinet for another year.

Turns out we didn't get as many kids as we had planned on, so we had some candy left over this morning. I had a couple Brach's fruit chews for breakfast. Had my heart set on a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, but I think the Teenager took all the good stuff home with him.
