fennel follies

hoo boy! did big daddy ever stir up the organic growth medium this week!

you'll remember the sf chronicle published a letter of mine last week advising that, contrary to notions expressed in a recent human interest item of theirs, european fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) does not have a benign effect on the bay area's ecosystems.

well, that sure put an Apis mellifera in letter writer bill carlin's bonnet, who voiced his opinion in wednesday's letters section that "True is apparently one of those who believe that any native plant is better than any other species and that all other species should be removed."

yeah, pardon me while i poison the heirloom tomatoes.

that got me so worked up, i started a thread on netslaves, where i got a lot of positive feedback.

then, in today's letters section, doug johnson, the executive director of the california exotic pest plant council came to my defense.

i don't know about you, but all these hyperlinks are making me dizzy.
