Angel Island

First time I went to Angel Island, I think it was 1974. I thought it was the coolest place ever!

I mean, what's not to like? Abandoned buildings all over the place. All kinds of unsafe structures to climb around on.

The State Park system has restored a lot of the buildings since then, and a lot of the natural habitat, too. We saw I don't know how many hawks, and even a kestrel and some cormorants.

Our plans to see the immigration station didn't work out so well, though. I didn't realize until we got there and saw the "CLOSED" sign that the whole immigration area is being remodeled, so you can't go to that part at all.

And the whole time, I kept telling Jeffrey, "You got to see the immigration station, man. That's your heritage!"

Oh boy, did I feel dumb. But we got to meet some Red Hat Ladies, so, you know. That was pretty culturally enriching too.
