givem helmet

i was chatting on my high school bulletin board about local tv shows from our childhood.

and that brought to mind the proudest moment of my childhood, the day i won a helmet.

there was this local children's show where this guy would show you how to draw, and you could send your drawings into the show to be evaluated.

the host of the show was the station's weatherman, who, like me, was a compulsive doodler, and used to draw cartoons on the weather map representing cold fronts and areas of high barometric pressure and so forth.

this was in the days before all this high tech blue screen weathermap technology. i think he just propped up a piece of plexiglass over a map of the bay.

anyway, my mom sent in a picture that i drew of what, if memory serves, was a sort of outer space clown.

and i won a prize! a BIG prize! the helmet that you see above. it had lights and a siren. it had to be the coolest toy ever that you could wear on your head.

and then my dad took pictures of me and my brother doing our bruce lee moves on the front lawn.

kind of makes you wonder why you don't see more advanced helmet technology being used in the martial arts community.
