in a bad neighborhood, people work on their cars out by the curb.
in a really bad neighborhood, people abandon their cars out by the curb.
and in a really really bad neighborhood, people abandon their burning cars out by the curb.
such was the north philadelphia quarter in which i resided from august 1987 to june 1989. i took the picture above in december 1988 after walking outside and discovering the smoldering remains of a ford pickup about ten feet from my front door.
since the holiday season was upon us, and the local sanitation department seemed none to eager to remove the vehicle, my friend kevin suggested that we decorate it with lights. we never could find an extension cord long enough.
